People across the globe are encouraged, on the first Saturday of May , to tend their portion of the world's garden unclothed as nature intended. Gardening has a timeless quality, and anyone can do it: young and old, singles or groups, the fit and infirm, urban and rural. An elderly lady in a Manhattan apartment can plant new annuals in her window box. Families can rake leaves in their back yard. Freehikers can pull invasive weeds along their favorite stretch of trail.

World Naked Gardening Day (WNGD) - First Saturday of May!
While the phenomenon quickly spread internationally, little investment has been made by its founders. They helped create a website early on, and then receded into the background. They intended that the idea of an introduction to clothes freedom through gardening was valuable and would grow organically on its own. While it's linked to a movement of nudists who promote wholesome and unashamed acceptance of the human body, the day is meant to be funny, lighthearted and non-political, founders say. Organizers assert that "besides being liberating, nude gardening is second only to swimming as an activity that people are most ready to consider doing nude". Beyond body positivity, Corky Stanton of Clothes Free International, an organization that promotes nude recreation, has asserted that the event offers the "fringe benefits of bare, unabashed recreation: the satisfaction of exercising in the great outdoors; the attractiveness of an all-over tan ; more Vitamin D on your whole body; the unbeatable experience of skinny-dipping if the naturist event involves a beach or a lake. While the event is most often celebrated in secluded areas, BFC first kicked off the event with its trademark "guerrilla pranksterism" and did a photo shoot in a public park.

The mass gathering for was called off in May due to the coronavirus pandemic that continues to spread across Oregon. But as people continue to recreate outdoors, that leaves room for individual acts of protest close to home, organizers said. The World Naked Bike Ride is officially a protest against dependency on oil, and protesters often show up for other causes, like body positivity and cyclist safety. Public nudity is actually illegal in Portland , but court rulings have made an exception for protests. The Portland Police Bureau said in the past it has allowed people to participate in the World Naked Bike Ride as long as they stay on the route with the rest of the riders.
Warning: as the title would suggest, some of the pictures in this article show mild nudity and may not be safe for work. You really are a sane and normal human being. To feel the sun and air unfiltered through the shackles of fabric, to celebrate the fact that you are a living, breathing, dying, animal without shame, without being controlled by societal rules, without the hot rush of embarrassment that invades you if you so much as get caught with your fly open?
